Agency for Early Music

Bild AmphionThe Amphion Wind Octet achieved international recognition barely two years after its founding by winning the rarely-awarded first prize at the Van Wassenaer Competition for early music ensembles in The Hague in 1998. Since then, the ensemble has given numerous concerts in Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Spain and the Netherlands.

Its members, all former students of the famous Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, are dedicated to the performance of early music on period instruments and play regularly with the foremost international baroque ensembles, including the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, the English Baroque Soloists, the Freiburger Barockorchester, Concerto Köln and Les Arts Florissants.

Amphion´s repertoire includes Mozart´s Serenades and Divertimentos and transcriptions of his operas by Triebensee, Wendt and Rossiniak, arrangements of works such as Haydn´s The Creation, and pieces for wind octet by composers including Mysllivecek, Rosetti, Hummel and Krommer.

The ensemble´s first CD for Pan Classics (pc 510 125), comprising original works by Joseph Triebensee, was released in October 2001 to great critical acclaim. The recording received several awards from the music press. There followed an equally successful and outstanding release of Krommer Partitas (pc 510 142) in 2013.
